Passport and visa requirements for a cruise

Consider every port and your personal circumstances together so you travel with complete documents.

Visa rules can change frequently and may differ between passengers. This page does not provide legal or consular advice; it helps you ask the right questions and find current official information.

Responsibility for travel documents

Each passenger is responsible for obtaining required passports, visas, transit visas and other entry documents for the countries and ports visited in good time. Port or transit requirements may apply even if you do not plan to go ashore.

Requirements vary by nationality, passport type, country of residence, age and route. Do not rely solely on a short “visa-free” label on a cruise page; verify your personal situation before booking.

Where should you verify information?

  1. List every port and country in your booking documents.
  2. Check the relevant country's official consular or foreign-ministry sources for your nationality.
  3. Turkish citizens should check current travel announcements from Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  4. Ask separately about transit, multiple entries and passport validity.
  5. Confirm with the competent authorities whether children or travel with one parent require a consent letter.

Allow enough time: Visa processing times vary. Do not leave applications until shortly before departure, and verify conditions before making non-refundable purchases.

Document check

  • Is your passport undamaged and signed wherever required?
  • Does your passport meet the strictest validity requirement on your route?
  • Are the name, passport number, number of entries and dates on your visa correct?
  • If a valid visa is in an old passport, have you verified the rules for travelling with both passports?
  • Are children's own documents and any required consent letters ready?

If documents are missing

Border authorities or the carrier may refuse boarding or entry if required documents are missing. Resulting costs and contractual consequences are assessed under the booking terms. If uncertain, ask the sales team for general route information, but obtain final confirmation from the competent official authorities.
